Family Medicine

The practice of family medicine involves the diagnosis and treatment of conditions across all areas of medicine and for people across all age groups, ranging from infants to senior citizens. At LMC, our family medicine department provides treatment for everything from the common cold and flu to the management of chronic conditions. We also conduct routine medical screenings such as annual check-ups to manage the health of patients and to take preventive action when necessary, with the goal of maintaining and improving the overall health of our patients and their families. The Speciality of Family Medicine

It's the combination of passion for the patients and a depth of knowledge of the human body that makes primary care such a unique, effective specialty. Access to a regular primary care physician has been linked to: Lower infant mortality Higher birth weights Immunization rates above national standards Lower overall health care costs Longer, healthier lives The AAFP represents 136,700 physicians and student members nationwide.

Internal Medicine vs. Family Medicine

This is perhaps one of the most confusing questions for many students (and patients alike), particularly when referring to internists who practice general internal medicine. However, there are fundamental differences in the focus, training, and patient care activities of these two specialties. Historically, internal medicine and family medicine developed from very different backgrounds.
