About Labib Medical Center

For over 70 years, Labib Medical Center (LMC) has been dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services to patients across Lebanon and the Middle East. LMC’s roots can be traced back to 1947, where the late Dr. Labib Kamel Abouzahr converted an old two-story building in the heart of Saida, Lebanon, into a small medical center called Al Ahli hospital. With one operating room, a handful of patient rooms, a small radiology suite, and an unrelenting work ethic, Dr. Abouzahr laid the foundations for a new hospital which would leave an indelible mark on the history of medicine in the south of Lebanon.

Dr. Abouzahr’s vision was to create a center of excellence in healthcare delivery for the region; one which would push the boundaries of innovation in both medicine and hospitality. Throughout the 1950’s and ‘60s, Dr. Abouzahr and his staff worked tirelessly to realize this vision, expanding the scope of services at Al Ahli Hospital and offering specialty treatments that were scarcely available in hospitals outside of Beirut at the time.

By 1974, Al Ahli expanded rapidly to meet the needs of a growing population and was eventually relocated to a much larger facility, where Dr. Abouzahr renamed the institution to Labib Medical Center.

Throughout the late 1970’s and 1980’s, LMC experienced significant growth and improvement in terms of capacity, service offering, and the overall quality of service provided. Since its establishment, LMC has grown its capacity from 52 beds to 137 beds, and has expanded its scope of services to include Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Neonatal Intensive Care, Oncology, Pediatrics, Neurosurgery, Endoscopic Spine Surgery, Endovascular Coiling for Brain Aneurysms, and many other core specialties. Over the last few decades, special emphasis was placed on the progressive development of LMC’s internal quality program, which led to the achievement of the ISO-9001 certification in 2007 in recognition of the high standard of quality across all areas of service and operations throughout the hospital.
